Eurodale Developments wins Renovator of the Year award

Toronto-based renovation company Eurodale Developments was named Renovator of the Year at the annual Renovation and Custom Home Awards by the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD).

The Renovator of the Year award recognizes a renovator who sets the standard for the rest of the sector in their leadership and commitment to customer service, as well as contributing to the overall image of the renovation industry.

This is the third time since 2010 that the Toronto-based company has won Renovator of the Year.

Customer satisfaction is a key component of the Renovator of the Year award and all applicants are required to submit a list of previous clients to be surveyed. In the surveys Eurodale's team was described as extremely competent, with one client stating that he will not hire anyone else for future projects.

"Eurodale Developments continues to demonstrate excellence in all aspects of home renovation year after year," said BILD vice-president of membership and RenoMark program manager, Helen Batista. "Past clients have praised the company's professionalism, transparency and quality of work. It's rivalled only by their commitment to driving the industry forward, as evidenced by the countless hours the company's partners spend volunteering for their Association."

The company is an active member of BILD and a regular contributor to the Association's advocacy and philanthropy efforts. Eurodale co-founder Brendan Charters has served on the BILD Executive Committee and Board of Directors, and was recognized in January with the BILD Chair's Award of Merit for his contribution to the industry and association.

The Renovation and Custom Home Awards recognize the top renovators and custom home builders in the GTA in nine distinct categories. A complete list of winners can be found in the GTA section of www.renomark.ca.

Celebrating quality and professionalism at annual awards

The top renovators and custom home builders in the GTA were recognized today at the Renovation and Custom Home Awards by the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD).

The Renovation and Custom Home Awards are an annual program created by BILD in 1999 to recognize professional renovators for professionalism, quality of work and industry leadership. Nominees are evaluated by a team of industry professionals with the Renovator of the Year award also judged based on survey results from previous clients.

All renovations were performed by members of the national RenoMark program operating in the GTA. The program helps homeowners identify and find professional renovators who have agreed to abide by a renovation-specific Code of Conduct. Contact information for all RenoMark renovators is accessible in a searchable online database at www.renomark.ca.

The Renovator of the Year award was presented to Eurodale Developments for the third time since 2010. The award recognizes a renovator who sets the standard for the rest of the sector in their leadership and commitment to customer service, as well as contributing to the overall image of the renovation industry.

In addition to Renovator of the Year, the Renovation and Custom Home Awards recognizes a number of individual renovations separated by price range, as well as the top condominium and green renovations.

Quality and professionalism recognized at annual awards

Greater Toronto, March 14, 2014 – The Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) is proud to announce the best of the GTA’s home renovation and custom-home building industry.

Six companies were recognized for their exceptional professionalism and quality of work, highlighting the achievements of the $13 billion a year home renovation and repair industry across the GTA.

“Judging was incredibly difficult this year as all entries demonstrated exceptional quality of work,” said BILD vice-president of membership and RenoMark program manager, Helen Batista. “I’m proud of the work our members have done and commend everyone who participated. These are all great examples of delivering on the homeowner’s dream when you hire a professional.”

In the Best Renovation Under $75,000 category, Golden Bee Homes Inc. captured the award for the second straight year. This time, the company took on a bathroom renovation project with impeccable results.

W.C. Meek Design and Construction Ltd. was awarded in the Best Renovation $75,000-$150,000 category. The renovation included the challenging task of creating a multifunctional space for entertaining and cooking in a large, modern kitchen.

Alphyn Construction Inc. was tasked to design and renovate a house that was not in livable condition when purchased by the homeowner. The client received a modern masterpiece complete with all desirable amenities while the renovator received an award for Best Renovation $150,000-$300,000.

In the Best Renovation $300,000-$500,000 category, SevernWoods Construction Inc. walked away victorious for their work on a project that started out as a simple kitchen reno, and finished with a completely redesigned main floor and partially renovated second floor.

This would be the first of two awards they picked up today. The second was for the Best Custom Home which featured a modern design with three bedrooms on split levels upstairs and two bedrooms in the basement. The main floor ceilings vary in height from nine to 16 feet, and the white walls with coloured accents, minimal trim and beautiful flooring complemented each other as the main interior finishes. It was truly an award-winning home.

The Best Renovation more than $500,000 category is always a difficult one to judge because it’s loaded with great examples of top-notch renovations. This year was no different but Upside Inc. stood out above the rest after building a 4,000-square-foot ravine home from a completely reconstructed bungalow with a very specific design criteria. Needless to say the finished product is stunning.

Eurodale Developments reclaimed its title as BILD Renovator of the Year by winning this prestigious award for the second time in four years. Please see separate news release about Renovator of the Year.

Before-and-after photos of the entries can be viewed at BILD’s Destination Renovation exhibit, located at booth 1916 at the National Home Show. The event runs March 14-23 at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place.

Renovation reveal: A wonderful space for Nicholas

A video capturing the magical moment when the Ferguson family sees their newly-renovated third-floor loft transformed into a treehouse and therapy space for three-year-old Nicholas will be on display at the upcoming Fall Home Show.

The Fergusons were chosen as the winners out of more than 6,200 people entered the BILD and Toronto Star contest last year. As the winners, the Fergusons received $35,000 to spend with a RenoMark renovator and, after conducting their own research, they selected Super Seven Group.

The renovation was completed in July 2013 and BILD member and video production company, Catur Agency, captured the entire transformation. The video, which shows how BILD and RenoMark renovators are helping to build a greater GTA, will be played in the BILD Destination Renovation booth at the National Home Show next spring, as well as at upcoming BILD events. BILD and Toronto Star announce $35,000 contest winner

The Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) and the Toronto Star have proudly selected the Ferguson family as the winner of its $35,000 contest. The family will put the prize toward a home renovation that will transform the family’s third-floor loft and former master bedroom into a therapy room for their young son, who was recently diagnosed with autism.

"This young family has already made so many sacrifices to get their son, Nicholas, the treatment he needs and this is something our industry can do to help," said BILD President and CEO Bryan Tuckey.

"We partnered with BILD to create this contest in celebration of the New in Homes section’s 35th anniversary. We asked people to tell us what $35,000 toward a new home or a renovation would mean to them and the 6,235 responses were extremely difficult to judge," said Sandy Muir, Vice President of Advertising at the Toronto Star.

Rosalie Ferguson penned a heartfelt entry, never expecting to win. She and her husband, Scott, have a two-and-a-half year old son, Nicholas, who was diagnosed with autism last year. While the Etobicoke family is on numerous waiting lists for treatment, they have spent their savings on in-home treatment for Nicholas. Rosalie and Scott moved all of their furniture out of the third-floor master bedroom so it can be used as a therapy room, but noise flows through the open concept home and there isn’t a door at the top of a steep flight of stairs.

The Fergusons will work with a professional RenoMark™ renovator to close off the top floor loft, install a door and built-in cabinetry to store distracting books and toys during Nicholas’ therapy sessions.

"Our son needs routine and for him, his home is his safe place and where he feels happiest," Rosalie wrote in her entry. "We want to stay here for a long time and adapt the house to suit him best."

BILD launches new RenoMark™ website

The Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) revealed a redesigned renomark.ca - the increasingly popular website that identifies professional renovators across Canada.

The website is home to the national RenoMark™ program, which was launched by BILD in 2001 in the GTA to help homeowners find reliable and reputable professional renovators. Today, the program is administered across eight provinces in more than 38 regional areas, each with its own searchable database.

"The success of the RenoMark™ program is evident by its rapid growth over the past 11 years," said BILD President and CEO Bryan Tuckey. "This program has improved consumer confidence in the renovation sector because every RenoMark™ renovator agrees to abide by a Code of Ethics and renovation-specific Code of Conduct."

The Code of Conduct includes offering a minimum two-year warranty on all work, carrying a minimum of $2 million liability insurance, providing a detailed, written contract for all jobs and returning all phone calls within two business days.

"The RenoMark™ brand is a recognizable and respected symbol of professionalism in the renovation industry," added BILD Vice-President of Membership and RenoMark™ Program Manager Helen Batista. "It means you are putting your home into the hands of a professional and can renovate with confidence, whether you're in the GTA, Greater Vancouver or the maritimes."

The new website will feature a modern design and simplified interface, allowing visitors to find contact information for professional renovators, read tips on the renovation process and download the RenoGuide - the complete guide to a successful renovation.

Residents of the GTA will also have the option of customizing their search by a specific trade, such as flooring, roofing or custom home building.
