THE KITCHEN & HALLWAY DUO
Renovator: Jackson & Associates Inc. Design – Build – Renovate
Biggest Challenge:
Knocking down the interior wall between the living room and kitchen. We had to do some fancy beam work, as the original wall wasn’t sitting on the block wall below.
This was a complete renovation of a kitchen and hallway entrance. The previous kitchen was removed and one of the two windows was bricked in. All cupboards, tile and countertops were replaced along with the sink. The fridge and stove were relocated. The hall doorway was removed to create an open concept to the room which changed the homeowner’s kitchen and living experience.
FROM OLDEN DAYS TO GOLDEN DAYS
Renovator: Ridgestone Construction Inc.
Biggest Challenge:
Eliminating a structural load bearing wall and as many of the columns as possible which were supporting a maze of beams above and below.
This 1980’s home lacked the contemporary look demanded from the client. The goal was to create a spacious main floor layout, enlarged kitchen and more natural light, all on a very limited budget. Creative structural solutions were achieved using a combination of structural steel and engineered wood beams. The main floor now features a spacious contemporary design, larger kitchen with room for family and guest entertainment, with natural lighting flowing throughout the main floor.
FUNCTIONAL SMALL SPACE
Renovator: W.C. Meek Design and Construction Ltd.
Nothing was saved in this 1950’s bungalow kitchen which required better function, added storage as well as enhanced visual appeal. Cool and classic colours framed the painted custom cabinetry along with Caesarstone countertops, marble backsplash, porcelain floor tile, LED pot and undercabinet lighting. Additional cabinetry by way of utilizing all square footage available altogether transformed this kitchen into a classic transitional work of art.
BETTER CONNECTED
Renovator: Binns Kitchen + Bath Design
Biggest Challenge:
Incorporating a plumbing stack. This was accomplished by designing a panelled open storage unit that wraps around the stack for the client to display wine glasses and accessorize with a clock and painting.
The client wished to create an open concept kitchen, allowing for auditory and visual connections to her living areas. She wanted open shelving to display items from her collection of pottery. Other objectives achieved in this project include additional counter space for baking and food preparation, desk seating area, secondary sink in island, separate storage for dog food, and wine bottle display and storage.
